The Downtown Hamilton BIA is forming two new subcommittees and is looking for interested BIA members to get involved. Subcommittees play a key role in helping shape the direction of BIA initiatives by reviewing specific areas of work and making recommendations to the BIA Board of Management. While subcommittees do not have decision-making authority, they provide valuable insights and strategic guidance that support the board in its planning and oversight of the BIA.
Events Subcommittee
The Events Subcommittee will meet 2–3 times throughout 2025 to discuss the operations and impact of BIA events and make recommendations on how to best allocate the events budget. The subcommittee will review and provide input on key events, including Summer Promenade, the King William Street closure, Halloween Spooktacular, and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, while also exploring potential new event opportunities for downtown Hamilton.
Governance & Advocacy Subcommittee
The Governance & Advocacy Subcommittee will meet twice in the first half of 2025 to review and/or draft updates to BIA policies, including procurement policies, associate membership guidelines, film shoot policies, and HR policies for BIA staff. Beyond these initial policy updates, the subcommittee will meet on an as-needed basis to address emerging advocacy opportunities that support downtown businesses and the broader community.
