The Downtown Hamilton Business Improvement Area (BIA) represents a group of property and business owners within a defined geographic area who work collectively to develop, promote, and protect the commercial viability of the area. The BIA enhances downtown vibrancy through events, beautification efforts, public art initiatives, and more. We are also a source of information for business members and advocate on their behalf.
Mission: The Downtown Hamilton Business Improvement Area provides value to our members through advocacy, beautification, promotion, development, and preservation of downtown Hamilton.

Position Description
The Operations Supervisor will play a key role in the successful implementation of the Downtown Hamilton BIA’s summer programming, with responsibilities that include event management, graffiti cleaning and administrative tasks. Part of this position involves working closely with full-time BIA staff to ensure the successful implementation of the Downtown Hamilton Park Crawl, a monthly outdoor event that provides entertainment and activities in Gore Park and John Rebecca Park simultaneously. Another major part of this position involves graffiti removal and tracking within the downtown core, with efforts expected to take place multiple days each week. Additional administrative work will be assigned as needed by full-time BIA staff.
Position Requirements
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Must be comfortable with working outdoors in all weather conditions for prolonged periods
- Must be comfortable with lifting up to 50 lbs
- Must possess the skills and confidence to act as an event leader and facilitator
- Must be comfortable using social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram)
- Lead the implementation and assist in the marketing of Downtown Hamilton Park Crawl, a monthly one-day event held in Gore Park and John Rebecca Park simultaneously.
- This event includes programmable features, such as entertainment, vendors, large-scale games and seating. The event is scheduled for the second Friday every month from June to August, running from 5 to 10 pm in Gore Park and 4 to 7 pm in John Rebecca Park. Employees must be available to work until 8 p.m. on this day each month.
- Co-ordinate scheduling and implementation of a graffiti removal plan. Participate in cleanup and graffiti removal tasks
- Participate in additional event/administrative duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Community Engagement Co-ordinator or Executive Director
