Checking in with Downtown

Part 10: The Return of the Gore Park Summer Promenade | May 29, 2024

Mark your calendars, the Gore Park Summer Promenade is returning to the downtown core next week!

The Gore Park Summer Promenade, the Downtown Hamilton BIA’s free outdoor concert series, has been held annually in Gore Park during the summer months for over a decade. Throughout last year’s event we collected feedback from visitors on how the event could be improved upon or what they would like to see, and there was one comment that was repeated more than any other: more music. This year we knew that we had to deliver, and chose to return to the three-day-a-week format that we last had in 2022.

This year the concerts will run from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday each week, beginning on June 4 and ending on August 29. Over the summer you can enjoy live music sets from 39 talented local musicians, activating the park in an exciting and inviting way. In addition to this live music, there will also be a variety of other fun activities to enjoy throughout the summer. There will be delicious food vendors scheduled throughout the summer, so you can get something to eat while enjoying the music. We are still looking for food vendors to attend later in the summer, if you are a food vendor interested in this opportunity please email Emily Gilruth at operations@downtownhamilton.org. Seating will be available for attendees to use, and make sure that you visit the park and challenge your friends to a game of life-size Connect 4, Jenga, checkers and ladder toss. We will have a new summer station premiering this summer, filled with equipment for everything that you need for a perfect day in the park.

The Gore Park Summer Promenade would not be possible without the help of local business Dr. Disc (20 Wilson Street). Our partnership with Dr. Disc began in 2019 when we hired a sound techicnian to be on-site every day to manage sound qaulity during the performances, and they have been a vital part of the event ever since. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Hamilton Musician’s Guild, Local 293, AFM/CFM. Many of the artists that we hire for this event are members of the Musician’s Guild, and they are continually dedicated to supporting the music community in Hamilton as a whole. We thank both of these organizations for the committed work they do in helping us bring quality live music to those in downtown Hamilton.

We hope that the Gore Park Summer Promenade acts as a fun and welcoming place in the heart of the downtown core during the summer. The event is designed to highlight the talented music community in Hamilton and activate the downtown core in an exciting way, and we hope that the return to three days a week makes it an even more enjoyable summer. Come down to Gore Park to enjoy the enjoy the music, food trucks, warm weather, and great vibes! While you are down in Gore Park, we encourage you to spend some time exploring the rest of downtown Hamilton, as the Summer Promenade is only one of the great events happening in the area during the summer.

You can find the full schedule for this year’s Gore Park Summer Promenade here. For up to date information about the Summer Promenade, make sure to continually check our website and follow us on Facebook and Instagram, as this is where we will be posting updates about the event and sharing who will be in attendance every week. The Summer Promenade is a rain-or-shine event apart from severe weather, and the BIA will notify people of any necessary cancellations as soon as possible through our social media channels.

We can’t wait to see you in Gore Park during the Summer Promenade and what we hope will be a busy and successful summer!
