There’s a new destination for tea lovers in the core: Daigyo Café, now open at 125 King St E. Already a favourite in Montréal and Scarborough, this is the brand’s third Canadian location, and Hamilton’s comes with an exclusive menu item you won’t find anywhere else.
Authentic Japanese Flavour
Daigyo takes its tea seriously. Ingredients are sourced directly from Japan, with a focus on organic teas and ceremonial-grade matcha from Shizuoka, a region known for its volcanic soil and exceptional water quality. From creamy Black Sesame Matcha Lattes to refreshing Yuzu O-Matcha, the menu balances tradition with creativity. Each drink or dessert reflects the Japanese pursuit of perfection and attention to detail.
What We Tried
We couldn’t resist diving into the menu, and here’s what stood out:
White Peach Jasmine Soft Serve – A Hamilton-exclusive, topped with a light crumble that adds the perfect crunch.
Matcha Latte – Smooth, balanced, and packed with the earthy depth of Shizuoka matcha.
Organic Houjicha Float – Roasted tea with a swirl of matcha soft serve, a perfect balance of nutty and creamy.
Matcha Strawberry Mousse – A glossy, jewel-like dessert with layers of flavour and texture.
Match Tiramichous – A playful take on tiramisu, rich with matcha and hands-down our favourite.
Inside the Café
The space feels modern but warm, with light wood finishes, lanterns glowing in the window, and shelves lined with ceremonial matcha sets. You’ll spot layered parfaits and soft serve cones on the menu screens, alongside house specials like the Yuzu O-Matcha and Matcha Affogato. It’s an inviting spot to settle in with a latte or explore the dessert case, but also easy to grab something on the go.
Beyond the Menu
Daigyo also brings Japan’s tea culture home with a selection of ceremonial-grade matcha and sets with traditional whisks, bowls, and other tools, these offerings let customers recreate the matcha experience beyond the café.
Lastly, we can’t forget to give a shout out to the wonderful team. They are incredibly friendly and are part of the phenomenal experience here.
Daigyo brings a slice of Japan to downtown Hamilton. A place where finely crafted tea meets playful desserts. For anyone curious about matcha, or already devoted to it, this is a must-visit.
