Part 6: Brunch Spots | March 20, 2024

We have now officially entered spring! While like it may not seem like it right now, this change in season brings with it warmer weather and more sunlight, both of which are sure to brighten your spirit. Nicer weather means that you will likely want to get out of your house more for fun outings. Grabbing brunch with your friends or family is always a great way to fill a weekend, and there are plenty of amazing places within the downtown core to visit. Here are some amazing brunch opportunities at restaurants within the downtown core:

  • The Standard (10 James Street North): This restaurant is one of downtown Hamilton’s newest additions, but it is already making a positive impact on the area. Their extensive brunch menu includes a variety of mimosas, “for the table” items such as a buttermilk biscuit board and wild blueberry scones, a variety of egg benedict flavours, salads and classic brunch items such as chicken + biscuits, egg white frittata, cinnamon “roll” French toast and more.   • Undefined (35 King William Street): Undefined’s philosophy can be summed up with their slogan “Eat, Drink and Enjoy”, all made possible through talented chefs who put their own unique spin on familiar dishes. Their brunch menu is full of delicious items that will ensure you easily follow the enjoy directive, with items such as a variety of mimosa, egg benedict and biscuit boards flavours, in addition to quintessential brunch items such as farmer’s sausage and hash skillet, panettone french toast and the UD brunch burger, amongst others.   • The Mule (41 King William Street): The Mule is focused on providing their customers with delicious chef-inspired tacos, cult classics, tequila, a good atmosphere with great music and more. Their brunch menu includes feature pancakes, feature brunch tacos, fried chicken and churros, huevos rancheros and more.   • Bardō (14 James Street North): Formerly Earth to Table: Bread Bar, this restaurant is committed to providing its customers with quality seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, exceptional food, and outstanding service. Their brunch service happens each Sunday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, and the menu includes a variety of drinks, on the buffet options such as yogurt parfait and cedar plank salmon, and a variety of a-la-care options that include eggs, savoury and sweet categories. For $49 each, you can enjoy 2 eye openers and all-you-eat a la carte.   • Electric Diner (28 James Street North): This restaurant is known for their amazing 80’s themed diner aesthetic, putting an exciting spin on classic diner food. Their brunch menu is available until 4 pm daily and includes items such as strawberry cheesecake short stack, a brunch burger, scramble skillet, cauliflower croquettes, and more.   • The French (37 King William Street): This upscale restaurant provides their customers with top quality French bistro fare, and is sure to impress. Their brunch service is available on the weekends from 10 am to 3 pm, and the menu includes oysters, a variety of eggs benedict options, mains such as tomato tartine, bananas foster French toast, grilled chicken club and sides such as French onion soup, chia seed pudding and salade maison, among others.
